Have you ever walked along the oldest coast in Italy? South West Sardinia is 570 million years old… this is the age when dinosaurs had not yet appeared and the sea was full of life.
Fossils, such as trilobites, have made it possible to date these rocks of the Iglesiente, a territory defined as an “island within an island”, thanks to the set of geological, natural and historical elements, making it unique compared to the rest of the Sardinian island.
The mining heritage distinguishes this territory, its history and its economic development is closely linked to the birth of the mines. Cities and villages owe their birth and growth to mining production, the most isolated are now abandoned, with our presence we will rediscover their history and make them less alone.

Sant'Anna Arresi Is Dunas Biancas
Departure from Sant’Anna Arresi, the only city with an urban Nuraghe, passages on the marvelous beaches of Is Dunas Biancas and Porto Pino, the Mura winery, and the lagoon of Porto Botte, to then return to Sant’Anna, via Masainas and at ancient furriadroxius and sheepfolds, between fields of artichokes (typical local production) and vineyards of Carignano.

BIKE TOURS SEA AND MINES
Two routes are proposed, one easy and one more challenging along the Iglesiente coast between the towns of Iglesias, Nebida Masua and Gonnesa. Moderately demanding itineraries but also suitable for untrained people, thanks to the rental of bikes with pedal assistance and for families with the possibility of small routes between Nebida and Masua, in both cases it is possible to book a visit to the Porto Flavia mining site and the Holy Cave Barbara.

Iglesias – Nebida route, with return to Iglesias by minibus: To make the journey less demanding, a one-way route from Iglesias to Porto Flavia is proposed, passing through the Monte Scorra cycle path and the numerous mining villages of Monteponi, Monteagruxiau, Monte Scorra, Nebida and Masua, with a visit to the sites of Laveria Lamarmora and Porto Flavia (by reservation).

A demanding circular route, suitable for trained and expert people with muscle bikes, or less trained but with pedal assistance. The itinerary allows you to enter the internal and wooded part of the Iglesiente and at the same time reach the coastal part of masua and buggerru, located a few kilometers away. Along the way it is possible to visit the town of Grugua, with the former Modigliani villa, the wonderful beach of Cala Domestica and the Porto Flavia site.

The itinerary allows you to enter the internal and mountainous part of the Iglesiente in the middle of the mining areas of San Benedetto, Marganai, Arenas, Tinì. Along the way it is possible to cross the beautiful caves of San Giovanni, the longest horizontal caves in Europe suitable for vehicles. At the Marganai it is possible to visit the botanical garden where there are all the main floristic species of Sardinia and the Mediterranean.
